Limestone
Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of
mineral calcite, the balance being made up by silica,
flint, sand and clay. The primary source of calcite
is most commonly marine organisms. Limestone is
quarried from places which, millions of years ago,
would have formed the floor of a shallow area of the
sea. Limestone is formed close to earth’s surface and
captures fossilized plant and animal life. Like marble
and granite, quality limestone is used in a wide range
of interior and exterior building applications.
Hard limestone will accept a high gloss polished,
honed or flamed finish. With striking tones, limestone
creates a tough yet refined surface that appeals to all
construction applications which wish to blend durability
with style.
There are many varieties of limestone in whites, beiges
and blues but some are more suited to internal applications,
for example, tiles. It is important to involve
your sales specialist when deciding on the type of
material most suitable for your particular project.
